Origins of IEMODU: China’s First Capsule Factory & The Family Legacy

The Concept

IEMODU’s origins can be traced back to 2010, when the founder’s uncle established one of China’s earliest and most influential capsule-sleeping equipment factories inside the Xi’an Aerospace Industrial Base. The factory specialized in designing and manufacturing modular living spaces, including sleep capsules, smoking rooms, mother-and-baby pods, shared fitness cabins, oxygen rooms, soundproof booths, duty rooms, mobile bathrooms, camping units, and more.

At the time, capsule living was a brand-new concept in China. Public awareness was low, and traditional accommodation dominated the market. The challenge was to introduce an entirely new way of resting, traveling, and living—compact, clean, efficient, and affordable—while building supply-chain capability for large-scale modular manufacturing.
